SHANGHAI DINE AROUND
The Bund is Shanghai's famous strip of grand colonial buildings that line the Huangpu River and is becoming a world class dining scene with some of the best chefs in the world opening restaurants.
For dinner on Thursday evening you are invited to experience the delightful and iconic restaurants located on the Bund and Xintiandi for the 'Shanghai Dine Around'.
For those who prefer to stay close to the hotel we have selected a delightful venue in the Pudong Shangri-La.
Delegates are asked to choose one of the following restaurants for dinner. Each delegate will be given a voucher and there will be approximately 60 - 80 delegates at each restaurant. A shuttle will be arranged between the Pudong Shangri-La and the restaurant areas.
M ON THE BUND
M on the Bund serves primarily Continental cuisine, though some dishes are from North Africa, India and the Middle East - "authentic" dishes, not fusion food. M on the Bund was the first independent, international-class Western restaurant in Shanghai when it opened in 1999 located in the former Nissin Shipping Building from the 1920s. It combines outstanding service, a lovely interior, great food, an excellent wine list - plus stunning views of the Bund and Pudong's space-age skyline. Leave room for M's signature dessert, Pavlova (a white meringue pie with fruit and whipped cream), or one of the delicious dessert specials.

WHAMPOA CLUB Step in if you want to feast on some Shanghainese treats prepared by famed Executive Chef Jerome Leung. As you step in, you'll catch glimpses of Feng Shui and Art Deco. The huge chandelier in the dining room almost reaches the floor. Chef Young Leung takes time honored recipes and adds his own creative dash to it. Go for the multi course tasting menu if you want to sample the best he has to offer. During hairy crab season, the Drunken Crab is a good choice. Wash it down with a glass of South African Sauvignon Blanc.

LARIS One of the six drinking-and-dining places at Three on the Bund, Laris is one of the most sophisticated eateries in Shanghai. The luxurious space has been compartmentalized into various sections - the main restaurant, seafood bar, vault lounge, and two private dining rooms. Go for the Pan-Fried Red Snapper, which is highly recommended by patrons. Laris is one of the few places in Shanghai to serve quality raw seafood - feast on delicious oysters and clams. There is an in-house chocolatier who serves up the most creative home-made chocolates. Go for the Warm Chocolate Fondant Cake with Rum-and-Raisin Ice-cream.

Tou Ming Si Kao (TMSK) The TMSK is a mysteriously oriental restaurant located in XinTianDi. The name TMSK means TouMingSiKao, or "transparent thinking". The main dining area's ceiling is designed as a half tube installed with thousands of color discs illuminated with warm lighting. It contrasts well with the cooler treatment of the lower half of the area, which is dimly lit with cooler blue & green lights. The mood is further enhanced by the flashing candle lights from the torch on the table. Together it provides a memorable dining experience that will impress your every sense.

JEAN GEORGES Nestled on the fourth floor of Three on the Bund, this swanky restaurant is actually the brainchild of world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. He stepped out of New York and set foot in Shanghai - it is no wonder, then, that the eatery offers contemporary French cuisine in a splendid Western setting. It is undoubtedly a success, just like his other ventures back home in New York. Right in the heart of the dining room, you'll find a wine cellar that holds around 2,500 bottles of wine. Feast on creative French dishes like Amuse-Bouche, and don't forget to end your meal with one of the fine desserts.

TAN WAI LOU The Chinese restaurant Tan Wai Lou is aiming at the top end of Cantonese dining with their "New Chinese Cuisine". The Italian architect Filippo Gabbiani who holds a certificate in "Rehabilitation of Ancient Buildings" was the main force behind the style of this restaurant. He combined traditional Chinese elements with modern materials to build a cozy and graceful atmosphere, with the Oriental TV Tower in view, right in front of the big windows. Executive Chef Tao Zhihai has been wearing his chefs hat for over 20 years cooking Cantonese food.

YE SHANGHAI Among Xintiandi's myriad restaurants, Ye is a good choice for inventive Shanghainese cooking. The upstairs dining enjoys plenty of light, with wide windows, a glass staircase and a pianist at weekends. Downstairs, comfortable booths overlook a cobbled street, and crimson Chinese lamps hang over dark wood furniture. The menu is a welcome departure from the encyclopedic norm. Order several small dishes to get the best out of the kitchen. Sea cucumber slices are prepared in pickled chilli with a little cilantro, and crispy eel has a faint sweetness that blends well with the light coat of sesame seeds. Avoid anything deep-fried, and try the wonderfully fresh seafood, such as scallops in sweet chilli sauce.

VILLA DU LAC Shanghai's restaurant scene is on a roll, and this latest addition to its roster of smarter dining rooms keeps up the pace. Villa du Lac's biggest attraction is perhaps its location, in a beautifully restored shikumen house overlooking a lake in downtown Shanghai. Inside, warm colours, carpeted floors and an abundance of fresh flowers evoke luxury and homeliness. The Yangzhounese cooking is very good indeed. Try shrimp cooked in longjin tea-leaves, duck sautéed with pine nuts and several house specialities (all preceded by the word Huting, the name of the restaurant in Chinese). It's definitely worth catching Huting drunken chicken. There is also an impressive wine list—still a rarity in Chinese restaurants.

VA BENE Va Bene Shanghai in the historic Xintiandi entertainment district has been the "talk of Shanghai" ever since it opened. And its success has been nothing short of meteoric - underlined by one remarkable achievement, which perhaps even sets a world record: within just four months of opening, readers of the popular lifestyle magazine Shanghai Entertainment Guide voted Va Bene Shanghai as "Shanghai's Best Restaurant". The venue is glamorous with rich, Tuscan and Venetian inspired interiors in a superbly restored historic shikumen house in Xintiandi, amid a lively cluster of cafes, restaurants, discos and galleries in the bustling heart of Shanghai. Main courses feature a range of beef tenderloin with goose liver, rack of lamb, chicken, veal, fish and alive canadien lobster, while for casual dining there are classic Roman style pizzas. Diners are also frequently taken on a 'Grand Tour' of Italy with authentic regional menus from Italy's most popular culinary regions.
